WEIGHT MANAGEMENT

Weight Watchers Formula (previous version)

The following is an explanation of the old WW Points Calculation, which continues to work for many people in an effort to lose weight. Please consult with your physician before starting any dietary plan.

WW Points System

1.   Points=(Calories / 50) + (Fat / 10) – (Dietary Fiber / 5)

For example, consider a pre-packaged meal with the following the nutritional info:

Calories=450 (450 / 50=9 points)

Fat=5 grams (5 / 10=0.5 points)

Dietary Fiber=5 grams (5 / 5=1 point)

POINTS=(9) + (0.5) – (1)=8.5 points

So this food is about 8.5 points, however, it is 8.5 points PER SERVING (not for the entire package). In many cases, each packaged meal has more than one serving in the package. Hence, if the package says that there are 2 servings in the package, the whole package would about 17 points.

2. Here is a link to a comprehensive list of foods and their WW points value:

http://quiddity.cc/rachel/diet/wwfoods.htm

This list does not include everything, but you can use the points values for the foods on this list to help you to estimate the points for foods that are not on the list.

3. Though most people on the old WW plan had a limit of between 25 and 35 points per day (with an extra 35 points per week being alotted according to each person’s discretion), the link below provides more specific recommendations for daily points intakes:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081022071747AAgdKIj

4. An important part of applying the program to your life is weighing yourself every week, on the same day and at the same time, with the same clothing on and recording your weight in a log.
