SBU HOST FAMILY PROGRAM
Every year, in August, hundreds of international students arrive at Stony Brook University (SBU) to begin their studies. The Host Family Program, now in its fourth decade, is a community sponsored program supported by the university. Its role is to introduce international students who wish to learn more about our culture and way of life to local American families. The hosts invite them to share an occasional meal, some local sightseeing, or a favorite activity. The students live on or near campus, not with the host family. There are always a shortage of families to accommodate all the students who would like to meet an American family.
